Lawyers' fees are freely set in accordance with the provisions of Act No. 1130 of 31 December 1971, Decree No. 1971 of 27 November 1991 and Decree No. 790 of 12 July 2005.

Every engagement is preceded by a fee agreement setting out in detail the work to be carried out, the corresponding fees and their payment terms. It is signed by both parties before any work begins.

The various fee-setting methods are as follows:

Where clients choose the hourly method, the firm indicates the applicable hourly rate. It also states the time likely to be devoted to studying and handling the case, as well as an estimated budget. This rate may vary within the firm depending on the matters handled; a higher rate may be agreed in cases that justify it.

The firm and its client agree on fixed and final fees. The work covered by the fixed fee is precisely set out in the fee agreement.

The lawyer may agree with the client on additional success-based fees, expressly stipulated in a prior fee agreement. This agreement must also provide for principal fees covering the work performed.

In accordance with Articles L. 612-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, in the event of a dispute with a lawyer, clients may refer the matter free of charge to the Consumer Mediator, being the national mediator attached to the French National Bar Council (CNB), whose details are as follows:
